New name, same series! Reel Talk is now International Cinema Cafe and continues to provide a snapshot of the best cinema from around the world, with a focus on films submitted for Best International Picture at the Academy Awards and hidden gems that may not see wide release. Screenings will take place in person at TIFF Bell Lightbox, as well as online on digital TIFF Bell Lightbox, starting this fall!
Part of the fun is the surprise: titles are not announced ahead of time, and all screenings are previews of films not yet released in theatres or on digital platforms in Toronto. Each event offers a thought-provoking, post-film discussion with a member of the film team — such as a director, screenwriter, producer, or actor — a critic, or a subject expert.
Last season’s lineup included award-winning films that premiered at Sundance, Cannes, and other international film festivals: Utama (Bolivia), Last Film Show (India), Cairo Conspiracy (Sweden), More Than Ever (France), After Love (United Kingdom), The Quiet Girl (Ireland), and You Can Live Forever (Canada).
