We heard your feedback, and we’re pleased to announce that Reel Talk returns as a hybrid series this fall. Screenings will take place in-person at TIFF Bell Lightbox as well as online on digital TIFF Bell Lightbox. As in previous years, the series provides a global snapshot of the best cinema from around the world, with a focus on art-house films that may not see wide release.
Part of the fun is the surprise: titles are not announced ahead of time, and all screenings are previews of films not yet released in theatres or on digital platforms in Toronto. Each event offers a thought-provoking, post-film discussion with a member of the film team — such as a director, screenwriter, producer, or actor — a critic, or a subject expert.
This season’s hosts are Ravi Srinivasan, International Programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival, and Christoph Straub, Senior Manager, Audience and Community.
Last season’s lineup included award-winning films that premiered at Sundance, Cannes, and other international film festivals: Luzzu (Malta), Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom (Bhutan), Fire (Kazakhstan), Great Freedom (Austria), Barakat (South Africa), and Aurora (Costa Rica).
- Films will be available on digital TIFF Bell Lightbox at 5pm ET on select Wednesdays between early November 2022 and late March 2023.
- Subscribers and single rental purchasers will have 48 hours to start watching the films and 24 hours to finish watching.
- Q&As will be pre-recorded in-cinema and available as bonus material.
- Complimentary coffee and pastries are not available as part of the digital experience.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Subscribers will not be able to switch formats during the season. Once you have committed to the in-person component of the series, your subscription is only valid for the in-person events and vice versa. To subscribe to the in-person experience, please visit tiff.net/reeltalk.
