Curve magazine founder Franco Stevens revisits the impact of her publication, and looks at the intersectional work being led by women of colour today.

“Accomplished, resonant and deeply moving.” –Inkoo Kang, The Hollywood Reporter

With a fistful of credit cards, a lucky run at the horse track, and chutzpah for days, Frances “Franco” Stevens launched the bestselling lesbian lifestyle magazine Curve. The documentary Ahead of the Curve traces the power of lesbian visibility and community over the past three decades through the story of the publication’s foundation, development, and expansion. Now, as Franco Stevens reassesses her life after a disabling injury, she sets out to understand work being led by queer women of colour today.

Co-directed by filmmaker and philanthropist Jen Rainin — who is Stevens’ wife — and producer Rivkah Beth Medow, Ahead of the Curve features Andrea Pino-Silva, Kim Katrin, Denice Frohman, Amber Hikes, Jewelle Gomez, Melissa Etheridge, and Lea DeLaria, with a score composed by the legendary Meshell Ndegeocello.
