This social thriller from director Julius Onah, based on JC Lee’s acclaimed play, is an intense, multilayered look at identity in modern America. Luce (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) is an all-star athlete and accomplished debater at his high school. He is popular, and adored by his parents (Naomi Watts and Tim Roth), who adopted him from a war-torn country a decade earlier — but his idealized reputation is called into question after his teacher Ms. Wilson (Octavia Spencer) makes a troubling discovery in his locker. Is Luce at fault, or is Ms. Wilson preying on stereotypes due to his birthplace and troubled early childhood?
