After suffering a personal tragedy, Harper (Jessie Buckley) attempts to find respite in a rural getaway. But upon her arrival at the English cottage she is renting, red flags begin to appear, suggesting that not all is quiet in the sleepy countryside. From the landlord who makes her uneasy with his probing questions about her solitude to the vicar who suggests she is to blame for her husband’s death, the men in this county — all played by a shape-shifting Rory Kinnear — exhibit behaviour ranging from slightly sinister to downright terrifying. When Harper begins to suspect that she is being stalked by a stranger and the town’s disbelieving police officer fails to act, she finds herself in a nightmare from which she cannot wake.

Directed by Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation) and filled with simmering dread, this surrealist horror explores the notion that there may, in fact, be something to fear about all men.
