Following the sudden death of his father, a young ramen chef, Masato (Takumi Saito), embarks on a culinary journey from Japan to his late mother’s home country of Singapore. Guided and inspired by his mother’s old journals, Masato is looking to reconnect with his past — but he uncovers a lot more than family secrets and delicious recipes.

Ramen Shop is a gentle, character-driven drama imbued with a distinctive sentimentalism that explores identity across two Asian cultures. With a particular focus on two signature dishes from Singapore and Japan — bak kuh teh and ramen, respectively — Eric Khoo’s 2018 film is a visual feast about the power of food to bring people together.
