Reel Talk #6 - March (2020)

Reel Talk: Contemporary World Cinema goes digital this season and provides a global snapshot of the best cinema from around the world, with a focus on non-English-language, art-house films that may not see wide release.

Part of the fun is the surprise: titles are not announced ahead of time, and all screenings are previews of films not yet released in theatres or digital platforms in Ontario. Each event offers a thought-provoking, live post-film discussion with a member of the film team — such as a director, screenwriter, producer, or actor — a critic, or a subject expert.

This season’s hosts are Diana Sanchez, Senior Director of Film at TIFF, Kiva Reardon, film programmer at the Academy Museum in LA and former TIFF programmer, and Liane Cunje, Manager of Festival Programming at TIFF.

Last season’s lineup included award-winning films that have premiered at festivals around the world: Who You Think I Am (France), Candelaria (Cuba), And Then We Danced (Georgia), Magari (Italy), The Orphanage (Afghanistan), and A Son (Tunisia).

The 2020–21 season of Reel Talk: Contemporary World Cinema takes place on the following weekends. Subscribers and ticket buyers will be able to access each film as of 12pm ET on the respective Friday and must start watching it before Sunday at 12pm ET. Once started, subscribers and ticket buyers have 24 hours to complete watching the film, unless otherwise noted. Q&As with special guests will take place live on Sundays at 2pm ET. These Q&As will also be recorded.
